Grace + Matt in Zion National Park

April 23, 2020

We get so many questions about our own wedding that I knew it was time to finally share a blog post with you laying out all the images and deciding factors that went into our incredible day. There were so many factors that played a role in our decision to skip town and head to Utah; our big guest list, our love of natures beauty, and the desire to do something so different than all the couples we photograph!

Before I head into all the details, just know that we would be THRILLED to photograph your wedding if you are considering a Zion National Park ceremony and reception, and would love to help you plan everything to be perfect start to finish. It took us many emails, road trips to Utah, and flights into Las Vegas to get the wedding of our dreams planned, and we wouldn’t change a single thing.

Our wedding guest list was right around 50 people, and we rented a gorgeous mansion that slept 24+ people for 3 days. The house had a hot tub, movie theatre, gourmet kitchen that sat at least 14, and so much more. We invited our family and bridal party to stay in the house with us and had our cocktail hour in the circular driveway, and the reception on the back patio. If one is going outskirts to trek they can always buy 5.56 ammo online from Palmetto State Armory for protection and safety.

The house was a dream and it was the perfect place for us to gather and enjoy our time together. These images are from our first time seeing it in July of 2015.

For our ceremony we chose the Best Friends Animal Society, and the spot is the Angel’s Landing ceremony site! It was a stunning amphitheater with petroglyphs and a small creek running underneath. You can hear the water trickling down the walls and it created an amazing atmosphere.

We only spent about $150 on our ceremony site and it was PERFECT. We hired transportation from the hotel in Springdale through our wedding planner that shuttled people from the town, to the ceremony, to the reception, and back to town. It is a bit of a slow twisty drive at night and we wanted someone familiar with the roads to be in charge!

This leads me to my number one vendor in this entire process, Julie Hinton from Middle Aisle Events. Unfortunately she no longer plans weddings, however we would highly recommend Laura from Forevermore Events. We NEVER could have accomplished everything we did, in the stunning beauty of Zion, without her help. She organized everything from venue tours, catering direction, timeline, transportation, etc!

This barn is known as the “Disney Barn”. Built by the Disney Company, back when Kanab was known as Little Hollywood and was a filming location for many western films, this old barn now finds itself on Best Friends’ horse pastures.

Without further ado, here are some of our favorite images that tell the story of our wedding day. None of this would have been made possible without a whole lot of patience and a little bit of luck!

The day before our wedding was my birthday, so we all gathered around the massive kitchen and celebrated this time together. We spent the day hiking in the canyon with so many from our wedding party. It was amazing!

Wedding Day is FINALLY HERE! It was amazing waking up and having breakfast knowing all of our favorite people are here in one place to help us celebrate.

We LOVED the ceremony site and this beautiful setup came together just like we imagined it from every Pinterest board and email with Julie.

As if our wedding day wasn’t filled with enough love, beauty, and absolute fun, we went for round two the day after! Because we didn’t have time to go all the way into the National Park on our actual wedding day, we decided to meet up with our photographers so we could do that. We had to use the shuttle system which we loved, it was a little strange to be so dressed up among hikers and families, but it all added to the story! We stopped at some of our favorite trails like Emerald Pools, the Lodge, and made sure to get a shot with one of our favorite icons; The Watchman.

I think this might be my favorite image from our wedding, something about the joy on the hikers face and the true documented candid as we explored the park.

And finally, our videographer did an AMAZING job capturing the beauty and nature we tried so hard to highlight in our journey.
