Top 5 Tips for Preparing for Your Engagement Session

January 28, 2020

Planning your engagement session?

Let us help you out!

We include an engagement session with each of our wedding collections because it’s important for us to build a relationship with you!  We will be with you for your entire wedding, and we don’t want to show up and be just another vendor that’s following you around.  We want to know you, and we want you to know us, so we can best document what’s important to you on your special day. The engagement session always helps us capture more natural, authentic images on your wedding day because you know your photographer, and you’re more comfortable in front of the camera.

Here are our 5 best tips to help you prepare for your session…

1. Come Prepared

Take it from us, it’s the little things that count!

If you want to arrive in your first outfit, we will get right to work (after a big hug and a little small talk!) Small details like having manicured nails to show off your ring and the right colored socks help ease stress, so consider setting out your outfits the night before and making sure you have every accessory you want to be photographed ready!

2. Bring a Change of Clothes

Two is always better than one. 😉

We love to offer the opportunity for an outfit change halfway through the session. This gives you the chance to get a few different looks and feels for your session while maximizing our time together. Many couples opt for one dressier option and one more casual option!

3. Nerves are Okay!

Take it from us, it’s the little things that count!

Please know that we do not expect you to be models. Our job is to direct you in a way that helps you relax, feel natural, and be your true comfortable selves in front of our camera. You do not need to practice poses, study Pinterest pins or let the nerves take over. By the end of the session, you will feel like Tyra Banks and wonder when your big break in modeling will come! Don’t worry if you are feeling nervous, we’ll be sure the end result is something you will love!

4. Props & Puppies

This is the time to tell YOUR story.

If you’re wondering about how you can make your experience personal and memorable, feel free to bring along any props that are special to you. We want your session to scream YOU, so if that means bringing your four-legged friend along or props that tell your story, please do! We can incorporate them into your photos in a fun way. Maybe it’s something from your proposal or a hobby you both love and share, maybe it’s a food you love or a bottle of wine that is special. Whatever you want in your photos, we’ll do my best to make it happen!

5. Make Plans for After

All dressed up with no place to go? No thanks!

Don’t forget to plan a date! You’re already going to be all dressed up! Why not take advantage of it? I know the wedding planning process can feel all-consuming, so take some time after the session just for the two of you to relax and have some fun together.
